History of the Classic Bike Company

Classic Bike's history begins on July 17, 1972, when the 20-year-old Irek Pyra buys his first Harley-Davidson WLA 1942 motorcycle which was abandoned in Poland by the Red Army during World War II. This Harley was brought to Europe under the Lend-Lease Act, United States military aid for European countries fighting against Nazi Germany.

This motorcycle was completely devastated and has not been used for 30 years. There were no Harley-Davidson dealerships in Poland. Spare parts were impossible to find and there were no service manuals or special tools.

It did not discourage Irek. On the contrary, it was a challenge. So begins a great dream and fascinating journey, full of passion and dedication adventure related to Harley-Davidson motorcycles and the production of spare parts for antique motorcycles that lasts until today.

After two years of hard work, in 1974, Irek completes the restoration of his first motorcycle. The fruit of the work is a beautiful chopper inspired by the movie Easy Rider. Its main element is the 24 inches long Springer fork made by Irek.

The first journey lasted 3 days. Irek drove 400 km. The motorcycle broke down few times and other unforeseen situations occurred. The kid patiently repaired the problems and drove further to finally reach the target. This journey was a great experience. Irek realized that his work and motorcycle passion would always be inseparable.

The motorcycle, that Irek built, aroused enormous interest and attracted crowds of people wherever he stopped. During the Cold War in the 70s, in Communist Poland, Poles could see someone who had the courage to show his individuality and independence. Irek quickly attracted a group of sympathizers who helped repair engines and transmissions. In 1979 he opened his first garage, where he began to produce, on a larger scale, spare parts for Harley-Davidson military motorcycles. Thanks to Irek and a group of passionate people who dedicated their lives to maintain and restore old motorcycles, the Harley-Davidson brand gained a large number of supporters. The demand for Irek’s parts steadily increased.

In December 1981 Poland declared the martial law. Tanks on the streets, shortage of food slowed down his enterprise but in 1983, right after the martial law was lifted, Irek borrowed money from his parents an opened the first factory in Poland producing parts for vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

In the early 90’s, the company produced the first Springer forks for the WLA model. To this day it is one of its best-selling products. Over the years, Classic Bike has added a full range of springer forks for all Harley-Davidson motorcycles produced between 1936 and 1948. All springers are produced according to the original technology used at the Harley-Davidson factories and are a faithful replica of the frontend, which was used on Flathead, Knucklehead and Panhead models. Thanks to modern technology, excellent materials, and Irek’s belief that only the product that matches the quality of the original Harley-Davidson parts is worthy carrying the Classic Bike brand, our springer forks dominated the European market.

Amateurs and collectors of old Harley-Davidson motorcycles in Europe and around the world use Irek's springer forks to restore their antique machines. To this day, Classic Bike has produced more than 20 thousand different types of Springer forks. Irek’s personality, interests and passion infected his sons Philip and Kuba, who joined his company. With excellent skills, new, fresh approach and commitment they continue and expand the business started by their father.

To this day, they ride their 45” flatheads.

Irek, although he is no longer actively conducting business, continues with his inherent precision and accuracy to develops and supervise production at every stage.
